Medical portal launched

MUMBAI, May 16

A NEW Internet portal,, has been launched. Promoted by Indian Medical Portal Pvt Ltd, the portal addresses medical practitioners, health-care consumers, hospital administrators, retail pharmacies and students of medicine.

A feature of is Physician's Prescription Guide (PPG), a prescription data-base comparable to the Physician's Desk Reference published in the US by the Medical Economics Co since 1946. PPG currently covers over 2,000 allopathic brands owned/marketed by 60 companies.

By August 1, the Guide would be enlarged to report 8,000 brands of 400 pharmaceutical companies, Mr. Ganesh Arnal, promoter and Managing Director, told presspersons.

The portal would be India-specific. The company has commenced work on a similar data-base project for Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani formulations marketed in India. A Hindi version of the portal is expected to be launched in the next few months.

The portal incorporates a large volume of consumer-education documentation on diseases and their treatment, aimed at giving consumers greater confidence in dealing with their physician, and accepting greater responsibility for recovery and physical well-being, the promoter said.
